Neuromodulator Treatments: Botox and Xeomin Wrinkle-Relaxing Injections in Calabasas

Residents of Calabasas who wish to reduce visible frown lines, diminish crow’s feet, or address excessive underarm sweating may find excellent results with neuromodulator treatments such as Botox or Xeomin. These injectable solutions work by targeting the neural signals that prompt repeated muscle contractions—those tiny movements that, over time, create visible wrinkles and creases. By temporarily easing muscle activity, these treatments not only soften facial lines but also promote improved skin texture and elasticity over time. Safe, effective, and non-surgical, Botox and Xeomin provide a science-based approach to achieving a younger, more revitalized appearance with minimal interruption to your routine.
What Are Neuromodulators

What Are Neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators are injectable agents that either naturally exist within the human body or are developed to replicate its chemical messengers. These treatments are primarily used to soften dynamic wrinkles—lines that form due to repeated facial movements—by relaxing the specific muscles that cause them. They work by blocking acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that sends signals from nerves to muscles, instructing them to contract. By temporarily interrupting this signal, neuromodulators help smooth facial skin and reduce the visibility of wrinkles. As a non-surgical option, they offer a safe, effective, and convenient path to rejuvenation with minimal downtime.

Some of the most commonly utilized neuromodulators in both cosmetic and clinical settings include:

  • Botox: As one of the most widely used neuromodulators in the aesthetics industry, Botulinum toxin works by temporarily diminishing muscular contractions in facial regions that are highly expressive. It is most commonly administered to reduce the appearance of lines caused by frequent motion, such as crow’s feet around the eyes, vertical frown lines between the brows, and horizontal forehead wrinkles.
  • Xeomin: Similar in function to Botox, Xeomin effectively softens facial wrinkles by inhibiting the movement of the muscles beneath the skin. Its distinct advantage lies in its uniquely purified formula, which contains only the active botulinum toxin without any accessory proteins—potentially making it a better option for those concerned about long-term immune sensitivity.

Neuromodulators vs. Neurotransmitters: What's the Difference

Neuromodulators and neurotransmitters both play critical roles in maintaining communication within the human body, especially in regulating systems such as serotonin and dopamine pathways, as well as activity in the central and peripheral nervous systems. The fundamental difference lies in how they operate: neurotransmitters are responsible for sending direct messages from one neuron to the next, while neuromodulators adjust the intensity, duration, or spread of those signals, often influencing a wider network of neurons rather than a single synapse.
In cosmetic procedures, neuromodulators like Botox and Xeomin temporarily interfere with the messaging between facial nerves and muscles. This targeted disruption lessens muscle contractions in specific areas, helping to smooth wrinkles formed from habitual expressions. It’s important to note that this aesthetic use is distinct from clinical neuromodulation, which involves devices implanted to manage chronic conditions such as persistent pain or neurological disorders. Those medical treatments affect broader nerve pathways and are intended for therapeutic, rather than cosmetic, benefits.

The Benefits of Neuromodulator Cosmetic Injectables

  • Remedying Dynamic Wrinkles
  • As we age, the lines formed by facial habits like frowning or laughing can become etched into the skin. Neuromodulators such as Botox and Xeomin help reverse this process by reducing muscle activity, leading to a visible softening of wrinkles and a more refined facial appearance.
  • Preventing New Wrinkle Formation
  • These treatments don’t just improve existing lines—they also help prevent future ones. By decreasing repetitive muscle use in common expression zones, regular neuromodulator sessions can keep your skin looking smooth and reduce the risk of deeper creases forming over time.
  • Treatment for Excessive Sweating
  • For individuals dealing with hyperhidrosis, Botox and Xeomin provide a safe and effective solution by blocking nerve messages that tell the sweat glands to activate. This significantly cuts down on unwanted perspiration in key areas like the underarms or hands, improving daily comfort and confidence.
  • Quick, Non-Surgical Solution
  • No scalpels or stitches are required for this straightforward injectable treatment. The process involves a few small injections and is typically completed within 15 to 20 minutes, making it a simple, walk-in option for those with packed daily routines.
  • Fast Results with Minimal Downtime
  • Results can start appearing within just a few days, with peak effects usually reached in about one to two weeks. There’s no required rest period, allowing patients to immediately get back to their daily lives while enjoying the gradual enhancement of their skin’s appearance.

Are You A Good Candidate For Neuromodulator Treatments in Calabasas?

If you’re based in Calabasas and struggling with skin concerns or unwanted sweating, neuromodulator injectables may be a smart solution tailored to your needs. You may be a strong candidate if you’re noticing:
  • Aging skin
  • Crow’s feet
  • Excessive sweating
  • Frown lines and forehead furrows
  • Sagging skin
  • Wrinkles

As a Calabasas resident, your consultation at Lifestyle Med Spa will involve a personalized assessment of your medical background and skincare goals to see if Botox or Xeomin is the right path forward for you.

How To Prepare Yourself for Neuromodulator Treatments

Thinking about getting cosmetic injectables like Botox or Xeomin? Preparing properly before your appointment can make a big difference in the outcome of your treatment. Taking the right steps ahead of time helps minimize the risk of side effects and ensures a more seamless, comfortable experience. To set yourself up for success, be sure to follow these important preparation tips:

Disclose Health Conditions

Be upfront with your injector about your entire health history, especially if you have any medical conditions that impact your muscles or nervous system. Treatments such as Botox should be avoided by individuals with neuromuscular disorders. It’s also important to report any current infections or localized muscle weakness near the areas to be treated.

Medication Interactions

Always provide a full list of medications and supplements you currently take. Some drugs—particularly certain antibiotics like aminoglycosides—can interact negatively with neuromodulators and may increase the chances of rare but serious side effects, including temporary muscle paralysis.

Previous Surgeries

Mention any past cosmetic or reconstructive surgeries, particularly those involving your face. Changes from surgery can affect muscle behavior and may influence how your treatment is planned or where injections will yield the best results.

Avoid During Pregnancy
or Breastfeeding

Cosmetic neuromodulator injections should be postponed if you are currently pregnant or nursing. The effects of these treatments during pregnancy and breastfeeding haven’t been thoroughly researched, so it’s safest to wait until after this period.

Limit Alcohol Consumption

It’s a good idea to avoid alcohol at least 24 hours before your appointment. Alcohol can thin your blood, which may increase the chance of developing bruises or mild swelling at the injection sites.

Arrive with a Clean Face

Cleanse your skin thoroughly and come to your session without any makeup or skincare products on. A clean surface helps lower the risk of post-injection irritation or potential infections.

What To Expect

Step 1: Consultation and Assessment

Your experience begins with a detailed consultation, where we’ll review your medical history, skincare routines, and long-term beauty goals. This session also includes a facial analysis to help determine whether Botox or Xeomin is the most suitable choice for achieving your desired results.

Step 2: Injection Site Preparation

Before your injections are administered, we make sure the targeted skin area is thoroughly cleansed to remove any impurities. We may also apply a numbing cream to make the process more comfortable and to help ensure that any sensitivity during treatment is minimized.

Step 3: Injection Process

Once your skin is prepped, a fine-tipped needle is used to deliver measured amounts of the selected neuromodulator into precise facial muscles. The entire procedure generally lasts about 10 to 20 minutes, and most patients tolerate it easily with little or no discomfort.

Step 4: Post-Treatment Care

Shortly after treatment, you might notice mild side effects like tenderness or redness at the injection sites. These are temporary and should go away within a few hours. It’s advised that you avoid applying pressure to your face and skip heavy physical activity for the next 24 hours.

Step 5: Results and Follow-Up

You’ll likely start to see the effects within just a few days, with the full smoothing benefits becoming visible by the end of the first week. These results typically hold for about three to four months. Follow-up visits can be scheduled to help you maintain a refreshed, youthful look year-round.

When I inquired about medications for weight loss I was warmly welcomed by the staff and immediately assisted. There was no pressure of using their services, instead every question I had was answered. The decision was made and I decided to try the terzipitide. I easily needed to lose 25 lbs. I started off at the lowest dose for a month, then with the help you get from the amazing staff (which is invaluable), I’ve slowly gone up in strength of the medication, my last dose was 7.5mg. I’m on my 15th week and honestly I have never seen 27lbs just fall off so effortlessly. It works that’s all I can say, it really works.

When I first started doing research about weight loss shots and medical spas, there was so many sites not willing to be upfront about the cost. Lifestyle health services was the first to layout all out and I appreciated the straightforwardness. I originally told myself that I would go in once a month, ask for my shots in advance to be done at home, but as I got to know the staff I love going in for my weekly appointment. Nurse Nicole is wonderful, very personable and is always ready to answer any questions I might have. The receptionist Annie is the best! She has been most generous with her time and understanding if I've had to change an appointment last minute or even come later in the day. I consider them my ladies! The office is very accommodating and I would and have recommended this office and service to anyone asking how I have lost so much weight this past year.
