Neuromodulator Treatments: Botox and Xeomin Wrinkle-Relaxing Injections in Burbank

People living in Burbank who are noticing lines between their brows, around their eyes, or experiencing bothersome sweating under the arms often turn to Botox or Xeomin as a practical remedy. These advanced injectables block nerve signals to reduce repetitive muscle contractions, which are primarily responsible for dynamic facial wrinkles. By calming these movements, the skin has a chance to repair, soften, and smooth. Used consistently, these treatments can improve skin’s elasticity and texture. With minimal discomfort and no need for downtime, Botox and Xeomin remain top choices for modern facial rejuvenation.
What Are Neuromodulators

What Are Neuromodulators?

Injectable neuromodulators are compounds either produced naturally within the human system or designed in laboratories to closely mimic the behavior of those internal chemical messengers. Their primary use lies in the softening of dynamic facial wrinkles—those that form through habitual muscle movements like smiling or furrowing the brow. By targeting and relaxing the exact muscles involved, neuromodulators work to minimize contraction by blocking the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter responsible for sending signals from nerves to muscles. This temporary relaxation helps the overlying skin appear smoother and less creased. With little to no downtime and no need for surgery, these treatments offer a reliable and accessible option for facial rejuvenation.
Some of the most commonly utilized neuromodulators in both cosmetic and clinical settings include:
  • Botox: Botox has become synonymous with cosmetic neuromodulators for good reason—it’s a reliable, effective way to manage wrinkles caused by repetitive expressions. The injectable reduces muscle activity in high-motion facial zones, such as around the eyes, between the brows, and across the forehead, resulting in a noticeably smoother appearance.
  • Xeomin: Often described as a “naked” botulinum toxin, Xeomin functions like Botox by inhibiting muscle contractions but stands out for its lack of accessory proteins. This stripped-down formula may help patients avoid the development of treatment resistance, making Xeomin a valuable alternative for long-term facial maintenance.

Neuromodulators vs. Neurotransmitters: What's the Difference

The nervous system communicates through both neurotransmitters and neuromodulators—chemical agents that, while related, perform different tasks. Neurotransmitters relay direct messages between neurons, acting quickly and specifically. Neuromodulators, by contrast, shape the overall environment of signal transmission, modulating how strongly or how widely a message is received. This nuanced regulation is central to complex neurological functions, especially those tied to serotonin and dopamine pathways.
In cosmetic dermatology, neuromodulators such as Botox and Xeomin are used to reduce facial muscle movement by blocking nerve signals. This softens the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. Though the term “neuromodulation” also applies to certain medical therapies, those procedures are distinct—usually involving implanted systems that treat persistent pain or neurological disorders. Medical neuromodulation is far more comprehensive and is applied for therapeutic rather than cosmetic benefit.

The Benefits of Neuromodulator Cosmetic Injectables

  • Remedying Dynamic Wrinkles
  • Over time, habitual expressions such as smiling, squinting, and frowning can lead to dynamic wrinkles—creases that deepen with age. Neuromodulators like Xeomin and Botox work to reduce the muscle activity that causes these lines, creating a more relaxed and youthful facial appearance by smoothing the surface of the skin.
  • Preventing New Wrinkle Formation
  • One of the long-term advantages of neuromodulator injections is the ability to prevent new lines from forming. By reducing frequent muscle movements in expressive areas, these treatments help delay deeper wrinkle development, maintaining smoother skin across the face.
  • Treatment for Excessive Sweating
  • People who suffer from overactive sweating in areas like the hands or underarms may benefit from these treatments. Neuromodulators stop the nerve signals that instruct sweat glands to activate, reducing perspiration and helping individuals stay dry and more at ease throughout the day.
  • Quick, Non-Surgical Solution
  • This efficient, non-surgical treatment doesn’t require any lengthy preparation or recovery. The entire process is completed through a few well-placed injections, typically done in under 20 minutes, allowing you to get in and out with ease.
  • Fast Results with Minimal Downtime
  • Initial changes can be seen within a few short days, with peak results appearing between one to two weeks. With no required downtime, most patients return immediately to work, errands, or social plans without delay.

Are You A Good Candidate For Neuromodulator Treatments in Burbank?

If you’re a Burbank local seeking options to treat aging skin or bothersome sweating, neuromodulator injectables may be an excellent fit. You may qualify if you’re beginning to notice:
  • Aging skin
  • Crow’s feet
  • Excessive sweating
  • Frown lines and forehead furrows
  • Sagging skin
  • Wrinkles
At Lifestyle Med Spa, our consultation process is designed to carefully review your unique skincare history and aesthetic aspirations to see if Botox or Xeomin can help address your specific concerns.

How To Prepare Yourself for Neuromodulator Treatments

If you’re scheduling a Botox or Xeomin session, preparing the right way ahead of time can lead to better, longer-lasting results. A few small steps taken before your treatment can help reduce common side effects like swelling and bruising while ensuring a more seamless visit. To help you feel confident and ready, we’ve outlined the most important tips to follow before your injectables appointment.

Disclose Health Conditions

Being forthright about your health history is a critical part of ensuring safe neuromodulator treatment. Certain muscle or nerve-related conditions can increase your risk of complications from injectables. Your injector also needs to know if you have any current infections or weakened muscles in or near the area being treated.

Medication Interactions

Be comprehensive in listing your current medications. This includes prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs, and natural supplements. Some medications may enhance the effects of neuromodulators in undesirable ways, especially those that impact nerve-to-muscle communication.

Previous Surgeries

Prior surgeries involving your facial structure—such as rhinoplasty, facelifts, or jaw reconstruction—can affect how Botox or Xeomin interact with your muscle tissue. Be sure to discuss all previous procedures with your provider to ensure a personalized, effective plan.

Avoid During Pregnancy
or Breastfeeding

Neuromodulator injections should be delayed if you’re currently pregnant or in the postpartum breastfeeding phase. The unknowns surrounding their effects during these times make it safer to postpone until later.

Limit Alcohol Consumption

Abstain from alcohol for 24 hours before your scheduled session. Alcohol may raise the likelihood of bruising and could compromise your body’s ability to heal quickly and evenly after injections.

Arrive with a Clean Face

You’ll get the best results from your appointment if you arrive makeup-free with freshly cleansed skin. Skincare products and makeup can carry bacteria or interfere with injection placement, so it’s best to come in bare-faced.

Step 1: Consultation and Assessment

Your journey begins with an informative and personalized consultation. During this time, we’ll go over your general health, previous cosmetic treatments, and goals for facial rejuvenation. We’ll also evaluate your facial expressions and muscle activity to determine whether Botox or Xeomin will best meet your expectations.

Step 2: Injection Site Preparation

To promote a safe and hygienic treatment process, we cleanse the injection sites to remove any makeup, oil, or debris. For patients concerned about discomfort, we offer a numbing cream to reduce any sensation and enhance the overall experience.

Step 3: Injection Process

Our expert injector uses a delicate, precision needle to administer small amounts of the neuromodulator into muscles responsible for movement-related wrinkles. The procedure is brief—typically no more than 20 minutes—and most patients report little to no pain during the session.

Step 4: Post‑Treatment Care

Mild side effects like puffiness, pinkness, or tenderness are common after injections and generally resolve within a few hours. We strongly recommend avoiding facial massages, laying down, or high-intensity activities during the 24 hours that follow your appointment.

Step 5: Results and Follow-Up

Results begin to emerge within 3 to 5 days and typically reach their peak in a week. On average, the effects of treatment last three to four months. To maintain your rejuvenated appearance, we’ll suggest a follow-up plan tailored to your preferences and facial needs.

When I inquired about medications for weight loss I was warmly welcomed by the staff and immediately assisted. There was no pressure of using their services, instead every question I had was answered. The decision was made and I decided to try the terzipitide. I easily needed to lose 25 lbs. I started off at the lowest dose for a month, then with the help you get from the amazing staff (which is invaluable), I’ve slowly gone up in strength of the medication, my last dose was 7.5mg. I’m on my 15th week and honestly I have never seen 27lbs just fall off so effortlessly. It works that’s all I can say, it really works.

When I first started doing research about weight loss shots and medical spas, there was so many sites not willing to be upfront about the cost. Lifestyle health services was the first to layout all out and I appreciated the straightforwardness. I originally told myself that I would go in once a month, ask for my shots in advance to be done at home, but as I got to know the staff I love going in for my weekly appointment. Nurse Nicole is wonderful, very personable and is always ready to answer any questions I might have. The receptionist Annie is the best! She has been most generous with her time and understanding if I've had to change an appointment last minute or even come later in the day. I consider them my ladies! The office is very accommodating and I would and have recommended this office and service to anyone asking how I have lost so much weight this past year.
