What Are Cosmetic Injectable Treatments?
As the name would suggest, cosmetic injectables involve administering specially formulated treatments directly under the skin. These injections can diminish wrinkles and fine lines, add volume, or reshape areas of the face and body.
Botox, including pure forms like Xeomin, and dermal fillers are the most commonly used injectables. At Lifestyle Med Spa, our cosmetic surgeons use the former. Here are the differences outlined in more detail:
Xeomin Vs. Botulinum toxin type A (Botox)
Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox) and Xeomin are both FDA-approved, naturally occurring molecules, and potent toxins. They work by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles that cause wrinkles like crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines, making them ideal for dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated facial movements.
However, the key difference lies in their formulation. Botox includes accessory proteins that can help stabilize the neurotoxin, but these additives can also increase resistance, reducing effectiveness over time. Xeomin, on the other hand, is the “naked” version that contains only the purified botulinum toxin without any additives. This purity may reduce the risk of developing resistance over time, making Xeomin a preferred option for some patients.
Both treatments offer similar results, typically lasting 3–6 months, but your personal response can vary based on skin type, treatment area, and prior use of neurotoxins.
